Department of Electrical Engineering, Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology (FUUAST) Islamabad , aims to be the leading institution for the advancement of electronics engineering. To achieve the objectives, the staff of the faculty of the Electronics Engineering, Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology is committed towards excellence through the inculcation of quality culture in teaching, research and professional services through a continually improved quality management system to satisfy academic expectations as per Higher Education Commission (HEC) requirements. The FUUAST is steadfast to get PEC accreditation latest by 2007 and obtain ISO 9000 certification until 2010. Rapid growth of multi-disciplinary industries demanding professional local engineers has urged the faculty to upgrade the academic programs. BE (Electronics Engineering) program specializing in electronics and communication does include 25% subjects from other areas of applied and social sciences to satisfy HEC and PEC across disciplines studies requirements. Academic links are being maintained with other academic institutions abroad, with the aim of exchanging information and experience concerning teaching, research and related activities. Renowned professors from overseas are being appointed to ensure the high standards and suitability of the current curriculum at FUUAST. Close links are also maintained with industries through industrial training and by collaborative research. This co-operation ensures that teaching staff and students are well aware of recent developments in industry. Mutual feedback of FUUAST and local industry will generate quality competitive products. This field of study offers a selection of topics in a broad field of electronic systems and the design of silicon integrated circuit and systems particularly with the challenge of VLSI. Topics to be covered include, but not limited to, VLSI design techniques, IC testability, analogue and digital system design, electronic processes in semiconductors, microelectronics, electrochemistry, front end electronics, embedded system design, optoelectronic, photonic device fabrication, high frequency amplifiers, digital signal processing (DSP), microcontrollers, PLCs, industrial and power electronics. To fulfill compelling local industry demand, the FUUAST intends to include undergraduate electrical engineering program very soon. FUUAST realizes the large proportion of local universities producing electronics and telecommunication engineers whilst the majority of local industries need electrical power and automation engineers to operate the existing systems. To upgrade knowledge of the existing engineering manpower in country, the FUUAST has initiated postgraduate research program in electrical power engineering. Under MS and Ph.D programs graduate electrical engineers are encouraged to go for research to tackle local industry problems in areas including but not limited to industrial electronics, programmable logic controllers (PLC), power electronic converters/inverters, power system protection, numerical relays, SCADA system, alternative energies and integration of new emerging technologies such as fiber optics, nanotechnology, bioelectronics, optoelectronics and lasers in electrical engineering.
Department of Electrical admitted first intake in BE (Electronics) in 2004 and continued to take average 150 students per semester per year in all subsequent semesters. Department of Electronics Engineering conducts two semesters per year and offers specializations in electronics and communication engineering programs with effect from 5 th semester. This department also accepts students for MS and Ph.D engineering programs. Duration for MS (Electrical Engineering) program with four specializations varies from 3-4 semesters. Duration for Ph.D (Electrical Engineering) with three specializations is minimal 8 semesters as full time registered research student.
